How to Upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11 without TPM | Step-by-Step Guide

Windows 11 is the latest version of Microsoft released in October 2010. Unlike Windows 10, it needs some requirements. Therefore, it is not a suitable option for all devices having Windows 10. The device must meet the requirements for upgrading to Windows 11. On the other hand, Microsoft came up with some ways to upgrade Windows 10 to 11 for those PCs which do not have the requirements. Here, we are going to tell you all about upgrading Windows 10 to Windows 11 without TPM.

What is TPM 2.0?

TPM, the short form of Trusted Platform Module, was unknown to many people before windows 11 was presented. It is small hardware that existed for many years. Fundamentally, TPM is a chip embedded in modern PCs or into their processors, and this processor is designed to make PCs safer by stopping the installation of destructive software. It is because many devices are stolen and lost in huge numbers. TPM can be used for coding data that even if it is fallen into the wrong people’s hands, they cannot access to data.

It is a useful characteristic that Microsoft asserted that Windows 11 can only run on PCs with TPM 2.0. This caused many people with powerful PCs and hardware cannot upgrade their devices to Windows 11. Although many people can run their TPM by BIOS or buy a module of TPM 2.0 for their devices, there are some ways to upgrade devices to Windows 11 without the support of TPM 2.0.

Devices with TPM want their users to identify themselves using a PIN code, password, fingerprint, or even a combination of these ways. TPM is the key to devices that you can be sure that they lock safely. Moreover, when it reaches the end of their work-life, it does not go to the recycler with any private data.

It is very difficult to break coding on devices with TPM. Data protected with TPM cannot be unlocked by correct identification, and because each coding key is interpreted independently by the TPM processor. These keys are not vulnerable to attacks that come from software or physical attacks. Devices with TPM can tell the user whether the hardware was added or removed, and they can refuse to work if they detect such an alternation.

Besides, It is not possible to remove the hard disk and put it on other devices to beat the coding because it is only unlocked with the TPM processor that locked it the first time. Even extreme actions like linking the TPM chip to another PC do not work because the TPM processor is connected with the device that was installed the first time. In general, TPM is offered to the businesses that are very important that their data must be secure even if they fall into the wrong hands.

Should I run Windows 11 without TPM 2.0?

As we mentioned earlier, it is possible to install windows 11 without TPM 2.0, but is it a good choice? It is understandable that while you have a great PC, you cannot upgrade it to windows 11, but just try this instruction if you are sure that you have to install windows 11. There will be a good reason why Microsoft is persisting in Windows 11 that if your PC does not include it, you will miss all those security benefits. However, Microsoft alerts the issues related to Windows 11 that there is possible damage to unsupported devices.

Microsoft asserts that the device may not work because of these adaptabilities and other problems. For devices that do not support the requirements, there is no guarantee for them to receive updates, especially security updates. Therefore, even if you run windows 11 without TPM 2.0, you may realize that you will no longer receive any updates, and this put your security at risk. For many people, it is recommended not to update their windows into windows 11 if you do not force them to do that. It is a bit frustrating but Microsoft will continue to develop Windows 10. Thus, it is not necessary to put your PCs at risk.

Should I Upgrade to Windows 11 if hardware is unsupported?

The answer to this question depends on the circumstance that you have. Windows 11 was released on 5th October 2021, and some devices do not support its requirements. But, Microsoft presented some ways for those PCs that do not support the requirements.

  1. Yes, Upgrade to Windows 11

If your PC is a spare device that is not important in your daily work, you can upgrade it to windows 11. Also, it is a risk Microsoft may stop releasing the updates if you decide to edit the registry to let Windows 11 install. Another problem is related to the security risks of your device in the production environment. The security setting in TPM 2.0 is not supported on your device.

  • No, Do not Upgrade to Windows 11

Windows 10 is supported by Microsoft till 25th October 2025. If you have only one device to work with, and installing Windows is important for you, it is not a good idea to upgrade it from Windows 10 to 11. Keep using Windows 10.

Why you shouldn’t Install Windows 11 without TPM 2.0

TPM and Secure Boot with Trusted Boot obstruct boot file with correction and block boot kits and rootkits. Secure Boot is supported by TPM 1.2, but it is limited to RSA and SHA-1 minifying. There are newer algorithms and crypto options that TPM 2.0 will uphold.

How to upgrade to Windows 11 without losing data?

It is always a better choice to have a backup of your data instead of depending on the upgrades for keeping your data. It is not possible to have too many backups.

If you run the setup of Windows 11 ISO disk while running Windows 10, you have a choice to choose a complete upgrade. This alternative keeps personal files like drivers, apps, and Windows settings.

Windows 11 revert back to Windows 10

If you feel like to downgrading your Windows from 11 to 10, you can do this up to the 10 first days of installing Windows 11, otherwise, you will lose all files of your Windows 10. Therefore, the only way to go back to Windows 10 is to reinstall Windows 10.

For reverting back to Windows 10 within 10 days, follow the instruction below:

Start menu > Setting > Windows Update > Advanced options > Recovery > Go back

Conclusion

To sum up, it is not a good choice to upgrade your Windows 10 to 11 if your PCs do not meet the requirements especially if you have one device to work with. Moreover, with devices without TPM 2.0, there are no other updates and it will put your devices’ security in danger.

  1. I have Asrock z390 pro4 , in CPU Configuration —> Trusted Computing there is no choice of tpm (PTT) writes No Security device found. found on off.the speck site of the motherboard and there is a TPM connector, further more interesting, I found a connector on the photos only it is called tpms1 and there are 17 pins for it, the question is, where to buy this connector separately??

  2. Guide for ASRock Motherboards:
Go to the BIOS, then to Advanced (advanced)—> CPU Configuration and there will be an item about enabling TPM (I chose AMD fTPM, I have Ryzen)

    1. The short answer is no. TPM support is a requirement for Windows 11.

The longer answer is that Microsoft can provide OEM and custom Windows 11 images to individual companies without requiring a TPM.
