If you have used Windows 10 for so long, you might understand that pressing F8 or Shift + F8 does not work anymore. Also, we cannot say there is no other way to enter Safe Mode. Therefore the question arises of how to enter Safe Mode on Windows 10?. In this article, we are going to tell you some ways to use Safe Mode. 

How to Enter Safe Mode on Windows 10?

The operating system loads user junction and has significant services and drivers required for its function whenever you go to Safe Mode in Windows 10. The mode uses it to make problems more manageable, and it does not load things that cause problems for Windows

We are going to tell you different methods to enter Safe Mode in Windows 10.

Use Shift + Restart on the Sign-in Screen

  • If you can go to the sign-in screen, press and hold Shift on the keyboard and click on the Power option in the menu and press Restart.
  • It restarts and ask you to choose an option. In this section select Troubleshoot.
  • Enter Advanced option on the opened window.
  • After that, select Startup Setting on the Advanced options. Based on your computer you might not find this option. If you cannot find, choose a link which says See more recovery options.
  • Select the Startup Settings.
  • You can restart your device to change advanced boot options like Enabling Safe Mode. Select Restart.
  • After restarting on more time, you can select which option to activate. To enter Safe Mode, you have three options.
  • Standard Safe Mode or hold 4 or the F4
  • Safe Mode with Networking or hold 5 or F5
  • Safe Mode with Command Prompt or hold 6 or F6
  • Enter Safe Mode in Windows 10 with supervisor permission of a user account, and do any changes you like.

Use Shift + Restart on the Start Men

  • Hold the Shift and hit the Start and Power to Restart.
  • It reboots and you should choose an option. Select Troubleshoot.
  • Enter Advanced options and Start Setting and then Restart.
  • Standard Safe Mode or hold 4 or the F4
  • Safe Mode with Networking or hold 5 or F5
  • Safe Mode with Command Prompt or hold 6 or F6

Use F8 or Shift + F8 (It doesn’t work for UEFI BIOS and SSD drives)

This option is not an alternative for how to start up in Safe Mode from BIOS. In Windows 7, you can press F8 before loading the system to open the Advanced Boot Options window for starting Save Mode. You might ask whether this method is practical for Windows 10 or not. According to some websites, press Shift + F8 before loading Windows 10 to proceed to the recovery mode. Then, you can launch the Safe Mode. Sometimes, this method does not work.

You cannot cut off the procedure with the keypresses if you have an updated PC with a UEFI BIOS and a quick SSD drive. With an old-fashioned BIOS and no SSD drive, using this method might help.

  • Use Installation Media and the Command Prompt
  • If you have or use a Windows 10 setup DVD or USB memory, you can use it for starting up your PC with a problem into Safe Mode, and then boot your Windows 10 that has a problem, and wait until the installation load.
  • Choose the language and keyboard design you work with
  • Click on Next.
  • Click on Repair Your Computer on the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • In this section, choose Troubleshoot.
  • Click on the Command Prompt on the Advanced options.
  • Inside the Command Prompt window, type bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal.
  • Press Enter and wait until you see the option which says The Operation Completed Successfully.
  • Select Continue on the next screen.
  1. Windows 10 go into the Safe Mode after PC reboots.
  2. Sign in with an account with director allowance, and apply the changes you like.

Note: The problem with this method is that you should enter the Safe Mode automatically every time you start your Windows until it orders another thing. If you want to disable this setting, do the same procedure again, and in the command box type bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot.

Use System Configuration (msconfig.exe)

One the easiest ways to boot into Safe Mode is using the System Configuration tool. Users know this toll as msconfig.exe.

  • Go to System Configuration, or type the System Configuration in the search bar to enter.
  • Click on the System Configuration shortcut.
  • Click on the Boot tab in the System Configuration window.
  • Select the Safe Boot in the Boot options section.
  • Click on OK.
  • Now, you should restart your computer. If you have some works to do, choose Exit without Restart. If not, choose Restart to Reboot Windows 10 in Safe Mode.
  • Go straight to Windows 10 Safe Mode. 

Interrupt the Normal Boot Sequence (Three Times in a Row)

If after three times Windows 10 fails to boot, the fourth time, it goes to the Automatic Repair mode by default. You can boot into Safe mode by this mode. You should cut off the usual boot procedure three times to activate the Automatic Repair Mode.

  1. To stop the Automatic Repair Mode during booting, use the Restart or the Power key on your Windows before it finishes loading Windows 10. If you use the Power key, you may need to hold it for 4 seconds to force it to power off. Whenever Windows 10 go to the Automatic Repair Mode, the first thing you see is Preparing Automatic Repair.
  • In this section, you will be asked to choose an account to keep going. Select an account with administrator permissions.
  • Use the password of the selected account.
  • Select Next
  • Wait until it diagnoses your PC.
  • Press the Advanced options key on the Automatic Repair screen.
  • Select Troubleshoot.
  • In this section follow the same procedure as method 1. Follow Advanced options -> Startup Settings -> Restart. Then, hold the 4 or the F4 key on your keyboard to boot into minimal Safe Mode, hold 5 or F5 to boot into Safe Mode with Networking, or hold6 or F6 to go into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Boot from a Recovery Drive

  • You can make a system recovery USB drive in Windows 10. Create this USB Recovery Drive on another computer with Windows 10 because your PC might not work.
  • After creating the USB recovery drive, utilize it to boot your Windows 10 PC or device. When it asks you to load its content, do it. It will ask you to select a layout for the keyboard. Select the layout you want to use. If you do not see the layout you want to use, click on See more Keyboard Layouts to have the complete list.
  • Go to Troubleshoot on the section of Choose an Option.
  • In this section follow the same procedure as method 1. Follow Advanced options -> Startup Settings -> Restart. Then, hold the 4 or the F4 key on your keyboard to boot into minimal Safe Mode, hold 5 or F5 to boot into Safe Mode with Networking, or hold6 or F6 to go into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Use the Settings App (Recovery Advanced Startup)

Another method to boot into Safe Mode is from the Settings app.

  • Go to Setting (Windows + I).
  • Enter Update & Security section.
  • Press down Recovery on the left of the Settings.
  • Click on the Restart Now on the right of the app, in the Advanced startup section.
  • Choose the Troubleshoot option after restarting of Windows 10.
  • In this section follow the same procedure as method 1. Follow Advanced options -> Startup Settings -> Restart. Then, hold the 4 or the F4 key on your keyboard to boot into minimal Safe Mode, hold 5 or F5 to boot into Safe Mode with Networking, or hold6 or F6 to go into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

Use the Shutdown Command in CMD

The Command Prompt suggests an alternative way for staring Windows 10 in Safe Mode.

  • Go to CMD and follow this command of shutdown.exe /r /o. It forces Windows 10 to restart into recovery mode,
  • After this, Windows 10 will sign out in less than a minute.
  • After logging out, Windows 10 loads Choose an Option screen, and click Troubleshoot. 
  • In this section follow the same procedure as method 1. Follow Advanced options -> Startup Settings -> Restart. Then, hold the 4 or the F4 key on your keyboard to boot into minimal Safe Mode, hold 5 or F5 to boot into Safe Mode with Networking, or hold6 or F6 to go into Safe Mode with Command Prompt.

How to Leave Safe Mode

There are two ways to exit. The easiest one is to restart your computer. Thus, hold the Power key or use the Start Menu to restart. If you restarted and find your PC in the Safe Mode, follow the steps below:

  1. To open the Run menu, press the Windows key + R.
  2. Type msconfig in the text box.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Click Boot at the top of the System Configuration menu.
  5. Under the Boot option, ensure that the Safe Boot is unchecked.
  6. Click on Ok, and restart your computer again.
