How to Increase Sleep Time in Windows 10: A Step-by-Step Guide

Windows 10 provides adjustable features in the sleep setting, which you can easily enhance efficiency. The sleep mode is more than just adjusting a predefined time to set your system in an idle state. Many users are not familiar with the features of sleep mode. What Is Sleep Mode?

Sleep mode is one of the options in the setting that save the battery of your Windows by putting the Windows in a low power mode. All the activities remain stable when you leave your system in sleep mode. In the sleep mode, your system stops all the activities and saves the state, and when you are ready to work with your system again, it comes up exactly in the state you left it. By default, your system will sleep after some time, but you have the option to choose the duration of idle.

How to Choose the Idle Duration after Your System Sleeps

When you enter the sleep setting, the first thing you should do is to adjust the duration of idle mode to go to sleep mode. You can also choose the options for when your system is using its own battery and when your system is connected to the power. Follow the steps below to adjust this setting:

  1. Hold Windows + I to enter the Windows Settings.
  2. Click on System.
  3. From the sidebar on the left, select Power & Sleep.
  4. There are two settings you can modify, one of them is On Battery Power, PC Goes to Sleep After and the other one is When Plugged in, PC Goes to Sleep After.
  5. In the Sleep section on the right, Select the duration of idle from the drop down menu.

Note: If you do not want your system to go to the sleep mode, select Never from the menus.

By default, if you move your mouse or trackpad, it wakes the system up from sleep mode. If you want this not to happen, follow the steps below to turn off this setting with your Device Manager tool:

  1. Hold Windows + R to enter Run.

  1. Hold Windows + I to enter Settings.

  3. Choose Power & Sleep.
  4. On the right side of the window, select Additional Power Settings.

  7. Choose Sleep from the drop-down menu of On Battery and Plugged in under the section of When I press the power button.
  8. You can change the settings, if your laptop has the Sleep option.
  9. On this page, you can access to shut down Setting. Thus, the Sleep option will be in the Power menu. You should ensure that there is a tick next to the Sleep in the shutdown settings.
  10. Click on Save Changes.

How to Regulate Wake Settings

Waking up your system automatically from Sleep mode is another way that you can use your sleep settings. Also, when your system wakes up from sleep mode, you can deactivate your system form by asking for the password again. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Enter Settings.
  2. Select System.

  • Choose Change Advanced Power Settings.
  • Select Plus to expand the Sleep option from the Advanced Settings.
  • Choose Plus beside the Allow wake timers to expand it.
  • Make sure that both On Battery and Plugged in are active. After that, press Apply and OK.

Deactivate Hybrid Sleep Settings to Stop Issues

Hybrid sleep is a mixture of sleep and hibernation, which causes a lot of problems in your system. To stop it from happening, it is necessary to turn off this option. Follow the steps below:

  2. Type powercfg.cpl in the Run box.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. You can see the available power plans on your PC.
  5. Next to the plan you would like to activate, choose the Radio.

Now your PC has both power and sleep settings. If it does not resolve your needs, you can move to another plan.

Use Custom Sleep Settings to Create a Power Plan

If your desired plan is not available, you can make it. You can make it by copying the settings from an existing plan and tweaking them. Now create your own plan. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click on the Start Menu.
  2. Select Power Options.
  3. From the right sidebar, choose Additional Power Settings.
  4. In the left sidebar, select Create a Power Plan.
  5. Choose an existing plan to copy setting from.
  6. Write a name for your plan.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Specify the Display Off and Sleep Settings.
  9. Choose Create.
  10. Now you can use your power plan.
  11. Click on Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings to change your power plan’s advanced options.
