Method 1: View Wi-Fi Password with Windows Settings

  1. Go to the Start Menu.
  2. Select Settings.

  4. Enter Status part, and scroll down and select Network and Sharing Center.
  5. In the View Your Active Networks section, click on your Wi-Fi name.
  6. Click on Wireless Properties when the Wi-Fi Status window opens.

Method 2: View Wi-Fi Password with Command Prompt

  1. Enter the Windows Start Menu which is located in the lower left corner of the taskbar.
  2. Type cmd to find the Command Prompt in the Start menu.
  3. Click right on the Command Prompt.
  4. Select Run as Administrator.

Note: To run the Command Prompt as an administrator, you should sign in to a Windows user account with administrative items before.

  • Type netsh wlan show profiles.
  • Hit Enter to see a list of networks that users connected to your computer.
  • Type netsh wlan show profiles name=”network name” key=clear.
  • Hit Enter.

Note: You should replace the network name with the name of the network which you would like to look for a password for it, and you should also be careful to put the name in quotation (“ ”). For instance, consider that the name of your network is “PTCL-BB”, therefore you should type “netsh wlan show profiles name=”PTCL-BB” key=clear” and hit Enter.

  • Find the password. There is a list next to the Key Content in the Command Prompt.

Method 3: View Wi-Fi Password from the Control Panel

  1. Hold Windows + R to open the Run Dialog.
  2. In the text field, type ncpa.cpl.
  3. Hit OK to open your network connection in the control panel.
  4. Click right on your Wi-Fi network.
  5. From the context menu, click Status.
  6. In the Wi-Fi Status windows, select Wireless Properties.
  7. Select the Security tab.
  8. To see your Wi-Fi password, click on Show Characters.

Method 4: View Wi-Fi Password Using a Power Shell Command

You can use a Network Shell (Netsh) Command to view details about your network, such as a password. Moreover, with this method, you can also see passwords from all the networks you have connected to before. For example, you need to know your office network password when you are at home. With this method, you can easily find the password of the office network without connecting to it. But, if you use the Forget option, it will not work.

One thing you must know is the name of the Wi-Fi network to use the netsh command. Luckily, whenever you use Power Shell Command, you can see the list of all the networks you have connected to before. You should note that you can use the same commands in the Command Prompt too. To use this method, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Start Menu and click right on it.
  2. Choose Power Shell from the list.
  3. Type the command netsh wlan show profiles.
  4. Hit Enter to see all the saved networks name under the User Profiles section.
  5. Copy the name of the network to use in the next command.
  6. To reveal the password of any of the saved networks, type the command below and replace the wifiname with the name of the network.
  7. netsh wlan show profile “name=wifiname” key=clear

For example: netsh wlan show profile “name=SSID hidden” key=clear.

  • Press Enter to see information about this network.
  • In the Security Settings, you can find the password next to the Key Content.

Method 5: View Wi-Fi Password Using a Third-Party Wi-Fi Password Viewer

Besides all the methods above, you can use a third-party application to see all the saved networks and their passwords. If you need to check your Wi-Fi password too much, this method is for you because you can see the detail of your network with a click. Moreover, you may need to use third-party tools to export or import passwords to another Windows.

Use Reset Router to Reset your Wi-Fi Password
