Windows 10 has a feature called Toast Notification which gives notifications for different applications. Notifications always appear above the taskbar, in the lower-right corner of the screen, and they have a special sound. The system always plays the same sound for all notifications, which may become annoying after a while. Windows has an option that you can change your notification. How to Change Default Sounds of Notifications on Windows 10

Follow the steps below to change the sound of your notifications in Windows 10:

  1. Go to the Settings.
  2. Select Personalization.
  3. Select Themes.
  4. Choose Sounds.
  5. Click on the Notification option in the Sound tab, under the Program Events.
  6. Choose a different sound in the Sounds drop-down menu.

Note: In this list you can also select None to stop the sound.

Note: You can change the sounds for other notifications such as New Mail Notification, New Text Message Notification, etc.

  • Select Apply.
  • Hit OK.

After finishing this procedure, you will get notifications with specific sound that you have chosen.

How to Place Sound File in Windows Media Folder to Adjust Custom Notification Sound

  1. Download your file.
  2. Get your custom sound file in .wav file format.
  3. Copy the sound file and paste it in C:\Windows\Media. With the change of the system folder, you should set administrator scores for this action.
  4. Select Continue to proceed.
  5. After copying the file to the folder, it will be accessible through system sound settings.

How to Disable Notifications Sound

Method 1:

  1. Hold Windows + I to enter Setting.
  2. Select System under Setting.
  3. In the left sidebar, select Notifications and Actions.
  4. Turn off the option of Get Notifications from Apps and Other Senders.

Method 2:

  1. Hold Windows + R to enter Run box.
  2. In the Run box, type control mmsys.cpl.

Note: If you would like to turn off one of the application notifications, it can be easily changed via individual Sound Settings. You should just select settings that you want to turn off or change the sound from the program events list.

  4. Click on Instant Message Notification from program events in the Sounds Settings.

  9. From the opened menu, choose a sound.
