How to Reduce Ping Time in Windows 8: Tips and Tricks

If you are a gamer, you will definitely know that a low ping is crucial for gaming. Also, common users might be annoyed by high ping and latency. For a better gaming experience, a wired connection can significantly reduce latency and even eradicate it.
This article illustrates how to reduce ping time in Windows 8. Read the following content to find out more.
What is Latency?
The time between sending a packet from the source and receiving it at the end of the destination is called latency.
Latency is measured in two disparate ways:
- One Way: It is measured by the latency of sending a packet from the source to receiving it by the destination in one way.
- Round Trip: It is measured by the latency of sending a packet from source to destination in one way and also from destination to the source again.
What is Lag?
Lag is the amount of time that the gaming server responds to your input. All of this process is measured with delay. High latency causes lag while gaming. Games that need high graphics will have high lag, but games with low graphics requirements will have low lag. Games such as Counter Strike and Age of Empires are some games that work through LAN, and they require very low latency. High latency does not have any effect on games such as Chess, Octiles, Backgammon, Sequence, Can’t Stop, and Mentalis.
Some apps, such as Online gameplay, Skype, YouTube, Cloud server storage, etc. can run smoothly with very low latency.
How to reduce high Ping on Windows 8?
- Hold the Window + R hotkey to open the Run dialog box.
- Type regedit.
- Hit the Enter button.
- Once the Registry Editor window pops up, copy and paste the following path into its search box: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces
- Now, you need to find the highest amount of IPAddress and DhcpIPAdress under the Interface section, which is located in the left-side pane. For instance, {9349AF6D-1FD5-4D40-95F9-85645C776103}
- Right-click on the {9349AF6D-1FD5-4D40-95F9-85645C776103} and create a new value.
- Select New, then DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Enter TcpAckFrequency as its name.
- Right-click on TcpAckFrequency and choose the Modify option.
- On the pop-up window, select Hexadecimal under the Base option.
- Enter 1 for the Value data option.
- Hit the Enter button.
- Now, like the above steps, create a TCPNoDelay and set its Value data to 1.
- Restart your PC. Now, you will see a reduction in the latency of your device.
