Core i5 Processor Speed Demystified: How Fast Is It Really?

What is Core in a Processor?

Before we talk about How Fast Is a Core i5 Processor?. Let’s know what is a Core. A core is known as the Central Processing Unit (CPU), which is responsible for doing computational tasks. The core is part of the CPU, which receives instructions and performs actions and calculations, and it is a collection of instructions that let software programs perform a task.

What is Core i5?

Core i5 is a computer processor developed and manufactured through Intel which is available as dual-core and quad-core. It is beneficial for desktops and laptops, and it is one of the four types of processors in the series Intel Core Family. In September 2009, the first i5 processor was released, and new versions of the i5 keep releasing.

Numerous speeds from 1.90 GHz up to 3.80 GHz are available for the Core i5 processor, and it has 3MB, 4MB, or 6MB of storage. The Core i5 processor uses LGA 1150 or LGA 1155 socket on the motherboard. You can find Core i5 as four cores and quad cores. Nevertheless, the top Core i5 processors have six Cores. DDR3 1333 or DDE3 1600 is the most common type of RAM in the Core i5 processor. If the motherboard supports it, you can use higher performance of RAM.

For Core i5 processors usage of power is different:

  • Slower speeds (1.90 GHz to 2.30 GHz) utilize 11.5 W of power
  • Medium speeds (2.60 GHz to 3.10 GHz) utilize 15 W, 25 W, 28 W or 37 W of power
  • Faster speeds (3.20 GHz to 3.80 GHz) utilize 35 W, 37 W, 45 W, 47 W, 65 W or 84 W of power

You can use Core i5 processors in desktop computers for everyday use and some high performances. Some laptops use Core i5 to improve their performance for heavier needs. At lower speeds, using the battery is conservative. It means that it can reach up to five hours, or it may need one single charge. But, at higher speeds, using the battery is higher, and it might reach up to three hours of usage for every charge.

Important Characteristics of Core i5 Processor

  • Core i5 processors provide an ability to work with unified Memory to improve the application’s performance.
  • It raises the speed of the Memory by more than 1333 MHz.
  • The i5 processors have a fast rate of performance. Therefore, it can work with a maximum CPU rate of 3.6 GHz.
  • This processor has turbo technology which helps you to increase the speed of your computational systems.
  • It utilizes 64-bit architecture for reliable working.

Pros of Core i5 Processor

  • It has a fast performance rate; therefore, it can perform at the maximum CPU rate of 3.6 GHz.
  • You can increase the speed of performance with turbo technology.
  • It provides the 64-bit architecture to have a reliable performance.

Drawbacks of Core i5 Processors

  • Usage of power is not better compared to the core-2 duo processor.
  • It does not support high visualized technology to display high-quality images and video graphics.
  • It needs newer motherboards.
  • This processor is sensitive to higher voltages.

What is i7 Processor?

Core i7 is a family of high-performance x89 64-bit processors which is developed through Intel. It was created for professional desktops and laptops. It is the first processor which is utilized Nehalem Micro-architecture. Core i7 is advantageous for those people who need high-resolution software like AAA video games, video editing, or present 3D objects.

Important Characteristics of Core i7 Processor

  • It supports 64-bit performance.
  • The speed of the front side is 2GH.
  • It has a fast performance with multitasking features.
  • It provides hyper-threading technology.
  • It supports the main memory of DDR3

What is i9 Processor?

Core i9 has Intel’s most powerful customer chips, but these parts are excessive for many users. There are ten and fourteen cores, and all of them have Hyper-Threading. Also, they have turbo speed which goes more than 5GHz, and great amounts of cache. It is designed for those creators who need a powerful tool for their photo and video works. Moreover, it is beneficial for design tools, CAD applications, massive databases, and work software. Therefore, Core i9 is not advantageous for those who do not use its power. Core i9 chips cost at least £450, and you can find many Core i9 laptops on the market.

Which CPU is best for you?

For users who need a computer for their office work or regular gaming, Core i5 is best for them. But, if users need a powerful super-computing server, Core i7 is ideal. Considering the price of Core i5 and Core i7, Core i7 is only six percent faster. If you work on taxing programs all day, Core i7 may be worthwhile. But it will be better to spend money on upgraded storage space, a high-resolution display, or a separate GPU for gaming. If we consider the CPU as a brain, GPU is the occipital lobe that is responsible for presenting images, videos, and animations in 2D or 3D display.

Although Core i7 presents graphics, it does it slower than GPU. GPUs are powerful, and some programs use them to help the CPU in non-graphics tasks to raise speed and performance. That is why every laptop designed for business, gaming, or education has GPU.

Conclusion

As we presented, different kinds of CPU processors have various features. It depends on the people’s usage. Do you think which one is suitable for you? If you merely use the computer for regular work, do you think it is worth paying money a lot?

    1. The new quad-core i5 processors are great for gaming. However, your processor is not the most important thing for games. You have to worry about your GPU.

Despite the fact that the built-in CPU graphics can run some games, GPUs are much more powerful and will last much longer.

Look at the Nvidia gtx 900 or 1000 series. Start with a gtx 960 or 1050.

    1. This, of course, depends on which i5 and i7 processors you are looking at, there are so many of them.

The more expensive i7s, of course, can’t be affected by any i5 at all. They use some version of the LGA2011 socket, run on 6-10 cores and support four independent DDR memory interfaces. The PC I built in 2012 has an i7–3930K with six cores… and, of course, 12 threads. Most, if not all i7s support hyperthreading, with two threads per core.

    1. 1) Use Microsoft To Fix It.
      2) Reduce the number of items that are triggered at startup.
      3) Delete Programs That Are No Longer In Use.
      4) Clean Your Disk.
      5) Think about switching from Internet Explorer to Chrome.
      6) Clear Your Browser.

    1. Higher = Better

A more complicated answer: The M-series mobile chip is selected for higher computing power, while the U-series chip is selected for stable operation at lower power. All other things being equal (and these chips are not equal, different generations are represented here) The M-series chip will generally perform better than the U-series chip in terms of overall computing power, while the U-series chip will offer better performance per watt.

The U-series chip will increase battery life, and the M-series chip will handle numbers better.
