How to Check Which Version of Windows You Have Installed

Sometimes when you face problems in your computer, you need to know which version of Windows are you running in your system, so you may ask yourself which Windows do I have? As there are numerous versions of Windows, it is necessary to know which version you are running in your computer. In this article, we presented all the possible ways to check the version of your Windows.  

Method 1: Find Your Windows Version in Run

  1. Hold Windows key + R to open the Run dialogue box on Windows.

Note: You can also right click on the Start Menu, and select Run.

  • Type winver.
  • Press Enter or click OK to open About Windows in another separate window.
  • Check your version. You can check it at the top of the About Windows window. It is displayed next to Version and your build number is next to Build to the right of Version.

Note: If you don’t have the latest version of Windows, it is better to update it immediately.

Method 2: Find Your Windows Version in Settings

  1. Press the Windows Start Menu. It is located in the lower-left corner of the Windows taskbar by default.
  2. Select the gear icon. It is located in the sidebar to the left of the Windows Start Menu, which displays the Setting.
  3. Select System, which is next to the icon which looks like a laptop computer. The first option in the Windows Settings Menu is System.
  4. Select About, which is the last option in the sidebar to the left. It shows information about your system.
  5. Scroll down and check your device and Windows specification. You can find this information on the About page in Windows Settings. You can see your system type like 32-bit or 64-bit next to System Type below Device Specification. You can find your Windows Edition next to Edition below Windows Specification. Your Windows version is next to Version below Windows Specification, and your Windows Build number is next to OS Build below Windows Specification.

Method 3: Find Your Windows Version Via This PC Icon on Your Desktop

  1. Right click on This PC icon on your Windows desktop.
  2. Click on Properties to see the System window. In this window, you can see the Windows version and edition at the top.

Method 4: Find Your Windows Version Via Windows Search

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard or Click Start icon in your taskbar instead.
  2. Enter System to see the search result for System in the Control Panel. Click on it to see your Windows version and edition on the top.

Method 5: Find Your Windows Version Via Control Panel

  1. Go to the Control Panel.
  2. Select System to see your Windows version and edition at the top right.

Note: You might need to first change your View By to large or small icons.

Method 6: Find Your Windows Version Via System Information

  1. Press Windows key.
  2. Type System Information.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. To see the version of Windows and its build number by clicking on System Summary on the left side of the window.

Method 7: Find Your Windows Version Via Command Prompt or PowerShell

  1. Press Windows key.
  2. Type cmd.
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Type ver.
  5. Press Enter to see the version of Windows on the next line.

Or you can do the following procedure instead:

  1. Type or copy and paste the following command into either interface:

systeminfo | findstr /B /C:”OS Name” /B /C:”OS Version”

  • Press Enter.
  • If you want to see licensing information, type: slmgr /dlv
  • Press Enter.
  • The information of your Windows version or licensing will be shown.
  • Select OK to close the window when it finishes.

Method 8: Find Your Windows Version on Mobile Devices

If you have Windows CE on your mobile device like a cell phone or PDA, follow the steps below to determine the version of it:

  1. Select Start.
  2. Hit Settings.
  3. Click on Control Panel.
  4. Select the System icon.
  5. You can see the version and build number of Windows CE in the System Properties.

Determine if the Windows is 32-Bits or 64-Bits

  1. Select the Windows Start Menu, which is located in the lower-left corner in the Windows Taskbar to see the Start Menu.

Note: You can press Windows + Pause to show the System Information screen in the Control Panel.

  • Type Control Panel which shows the Control Panel in the Start Menu.
  • Select the Control Panel icon to enter the Control Panel.
  • Select System to see the system information. You can see the Windows Edition for Example Windows 10 Home below Windows Edition, and also you can see your system type next to the System Type below the System.
